The Hanai Hawaii Foundation Welcomes You
About
The Hanai Hawaii Foundation is a Native Hawaiian Organization (NHO) that works to expand opportunities for Native Hawaiians through financial sponsorship and social investing in Native Hawaiian arts and culture, language, education, environment, health, human services, and community development, in Hawaii and for Native Hawaiians nationally. The Foundation seeks to collaborate with and provide financial sponsorship to community partners to advance pathways for Native Hawaiians at risk of poor educational, economic, social and health outcomes.
Hanai means “to foster, nurture, sustain”, and the Foundation is devoted to fostering a brighter and more prosperous future for Native Hawaiians.

Helping Native Hawaiians reach new heights
The 8(a) Business Development program, which is administered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), was created to provide support to small, disadvantaged businesses, particularly with gaining access to the Federal marketplace. NHOs participate in the SBA 8(a) program under special rules, with the intent to provide Native Hawaiian communities the ability to develop self-sufficient economic ventures. Unlike businesses owned by individuals, profits generated from NHOs go back to their Native communities rather than individual business owners. NHOs are non-profit organizations, managed by Native Hawaiians, that must have a majority ownership of a for-profit, small business that has been approved to participate in the 8(a) Business Development program.

NHOs are designed by and for Native Hawaiians to:
